A Recap: Seasons 1 to 4 at a Glance

Season 1 (1983):

Welcome to Hawkins, Indiana! It’s 1983, a time of classic movies, Stephen King’s chilling novels, and endless nights of Dungeons & Dragons with the crew. The story began with the mysterious disappearance of Will Byers (Noah Schnapp) to a terrifying alternate dimension known as the Upside Down. Will is trapped there and is hiding from dimension-jumping, man-eating monsters called Demogorgons, falling ash, and weird tentacles. Goosebumps! With the help of Eleven (Millie Bobby Brown), a girl with powerful psychokinetic abilities, Will’s friends faced off against the Demogorgon and helped bring him back.

“Friends don’t lie,” Eleven famously said, as her bond with Mike, Dustin, and Lucas grew stronger with every episode. In an effort to protect her friends from the Demogorgon, she fights it off and is lost to the Upside Down. With Will back, the original gang is reunited, and all seems well in Hawkins. Oh, and Will coughs up a weird black slug!

Season 2 (1984):

Turns out that even though Will was rescued, he’s far from safe. Afterwards, he is constantly haunted by visions and possessed by a dark force. In Stranger Things season 2, Will became the vessel for the Mind Flayer, an entity far more sinister than the Demogorgon. Meanwhile, Eleven went on a journey of self-discovery, uncovering her past and unlocking new powers. Max Mayfield, played by Sadie Sink, rolls into Hawkins alongside her hot-headed stepbrother Billy, portrayed by Dacre Montgomery. Billy’s instantly gunning for top-dog status, going head-to-head with Steve Harrington (Joe Keery) for the school’s crown of cool. The threat expanded as the gang fought against demodogs, and the lore of the Upside Down deepened its tentacles into Hawkins.

Season 3 (1985):

It’s the summer of 1985, and Hawkins is buzzing over the new Starcourt Mall. Mike (Finn Wolfhard) and Eleven are dating, which drives Hopper (David Harbour) up the wall. Steve (Joe Keery) is scooping ice cream at Scoops Ahoy with sharp-tongued Robin (Maya Hawke), while Dustin (Gaten Matarazzo) returns from camp with tales of a girlfriend and a gadget that picks up secret Russian transmissions. Billy becomes possessed by the Mind Flayer. In this season, we see exploding rats, possessed townsfolk, and creeping dread as the gang figures out what’s going on and prepares for a showdown.

The kids take on the Flayer with fireworks at the mall. Billy sacrifices himself to save Eleven, while Joyce (Winona Ryder) and Hopper break into the Russian lab. In the last episode, Joyce destroys the machine, and we all think that Hopper is dead.

Season 4 (1986):

As we saw the action stretching beyond Hawkins, the series introduced its most terrifying villain yet: Vecna. He is a tortured soul with a vendetta. As Max Mayfield became one of his primary targets, Eleven struggled to regain her powers and confront her past. The season ended with Hawkins in ruins, the Upside Down spilling into the real world, and Max in a coma. As Vecna said chillingly, This is only the beginning.

Season 5 Synopsis: Welcome to the Final Battle

The official synopsis for Stranger Things season 5 says, “The fall of 1987. Hawkins is scarred by the opening of the Rifts, and our heroes are united by a single goal: find and kill Vecna. But he has vanished…”

As government forces quarantine Hawkins and hunt Eleven, the group must reunite for one final fight. The shadow of Will’s original disappearance looms large as the party braces for the endgame. According to the Duffer Brothers, this season is “eight blockbuster movies” rolled into one. We are stunned to know that the show has over 650 hours of footage! Therefore, it is going to be one of the most ambitious, emotional, and intense season yet.

Who Dies in Stranger Things Season 5?

We still haven’t recovered from Eddie Munson’s heroic death. In the trailer, we see Nancy Wheeler troubled as she washes blood off her hands and is seen crying. Could we lose a fan favorite like Steve or Eleven? As the Duffers put it, There was so much crying. The show means so much to all of us.” Brace yourselves.

It is a terrifying reminder that the end is near.

Beyond Season 5: The Stranger Things Universe Expands

We do have some good news. Season 5 might be the end of Stranger Things in Hawkins as we know it; Matt and Ross Duffer have confirmed that more stories are in development.
